Plot

In Mary's side, she goes through her childhood, playing pretend with a friend all while witnessing through the keyhole of John Arkham's office the deterioration of her father's mental state as he delves deeper in his study of demons, and how it affects his relationship with her and her mother, as the later, Kalina Ann, pleads with John to stop, but he refuses. One night, Mary witnesses another argument between her parents, this time, Kalina Ann tries to stop John, but he throws her down and injects himself with demon's blood, turning him into a demon. As Mary rushes to her mother and is being reassured by her Kalina Ann, John grabs his wife's face and Mary is flung into a book shelf. Mary then witnesses her mother dead and being eaten by her father, who now has physically changed. Mary then fearful picked up one of John's scalpels and rushed at him, only to be slapped away into his instruments, causing a fire, engulfing John and the house in flames, presuming killing John as Mary escapes the burning house, seeing her father's burning face on last time before leaving. When Mary grew up, she then joined DARKCOM, and hunted demons with her team, quickly working her way up to become a lieutenant. During an assignment to bust a certain deal involving demons, she and her team come across a picture of a warehouse, where they find more demons that they eliminate. After they finish, they witness green sparks appearing near the wall of the warehouse.

In the White Rabbit's side, it is revealed he was originally a human boy with a strong love with Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland, carrying the book around everywhere. An orphan, he was left with a foster family as a child, but he was constantly bullied by his foster siblings and abused by his foster parents. Despite his pleas with the social worker, the worker ignored his situation and left him in those circumstances. Eventually, a portal to Makai happened to open near the boy and he, likening the situation to Alice in the novel, walked though it. After finding himself in Makai, he quickly realized that air was hard to breath and he was chased by a giant demon, being saved by a friendly Makaian. the Makaian took the boy back to his refugee camp and the boy quickly became friends with his family. One day, while playing the boy noticed a glowing light and found a gem. Soon after that one of his friends, a younger one succumbed to the toxic air of Makai and died. At their funeral, the boy sacrificed his book to her. Desperate to not allow such a thing to happen again, the boy began using his gem to create a device that allowed him to open portals to and from the human world. When the boy grew up, he would go on to use these portals to allow Makaians to flee Makai and live peacefully in the human world, and he would show the Makaians the many different facets of the human world. During one of his usual excursions, this time he notices a large demon heading to the group's location and attacking some Makaians and urges the others to hurry through the portal.

When the young man entered through the portal with the Makaians, he noticed the bodies of dead ones on the other side, then realizing there was an ambush as Mary's team pointed their guns at him and his group. Mary notices something and orders her team to standby, as the young man has the Makaians hold their arms up. Mary asks why the young man looks human, to which he confirms that he is, and pleads to let them go as they are only looking for safety. Mary refutes this claim, saying that he is smuggling demons into the world, stating that humans' safety will only come from the annihilation of demons. Before the young man can explain to convince Mary of the Makaians innocence, the demon he and the Makaians were fleeing from entered through the still opened portal and eats some of them. This provokes Mary and her team to shoot not only the demon, but also kill the Makaians and injure the young man. Mary then orders her team to retreat, as she take her belt off full of explosives and throws it into the demon's mouth and escapes, killing it and the remaining Makaians in the explosion.

In the aftermath of the explosion, the young man had barely survived, nearing death. He sobs as he looks upon the corpses of the Makaians, which soon turns to maniacal laughter. Later, in the rundown apartment that would become his base of operations, the young man sewed a rabbit hood from several rabbit dolls, attached it to his head, and put on a suit, becoming the White Rabbit, intent on bringing everyone "down the rabbit hole together".
