The Sky Star is one of the actions of the Trickster Style that appears in Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 5 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.
Description
Sky Star is a midair evasive maneuver in which the user pushes themselves in any direction off a colored glyph, similar to Air Hike. This essentially functions as an air dash.
This technique has been used by Dante and Trish, who have a red and yellow glyph respectively. Sky Star is very effective in dodging attacks as it contains invincibility frames. So effective that you can dash through lasers in Mission 12 with good timing in Devil May Cry 4.
It should be noted that Sky Star while it has fast instantaneous movement, loses any horizontal momentum at the end of the dash. Because of this, users can be left as a sitting duck if they Sky Star into a bad situation with no other air options left.
Appearances
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
This move makes its debut in Devil May Cry 3. It must be obtained by reaching Level 2 with Trickster Style for Dante.
Devil May Cry 4
The Sky Star returns in this game, retaining its functions from Devil May Cry 3 but it can now be performed from the get-go. While in Devil Trigger, Dante can use Sky Star twice in a row.
Devil May Cry 5
The Sky Star returns again in this game, possessing its properties from the previous games. Additionally, if the Devil Sword Dante's Swords Formation is active Dante will be able to perform an additional Sky Star while using Reactor Formation, twice in a row in human form, and up to three times in Devil Trigger.
DmC: Devil May Cry
In DmC: Devil May Cry, the Sky Star ability is replaced and seperated into two new evasive abilities: Angel Boost and Aerial Evade. Angel Boost is a long range air dash that starts with a blue ring and carries all horizontal momentum during the dash, but has no invincibility frames. Aerial Evade is an evasive invincible air dash that only loses its horizontal momentum at the end of the move, but has short range and no ring glyph. Aerial Evade can only be performed by Dante, but Angel Boost can be performed by either Dante or Vergil.
Appearances in Other Media
Marvel Vs Capcom 3
Dante and Trish use Sky Star in combat, functioning as their air dashes (and thus can be used backwards as well with shorter distance than the forward version).
Dante's Sky Star is red while Trish's is yellow.
In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Vergil has an unlisted Sky-Star-like air dash (except without the glyphs) that can only be used if Devil Trigger is active.
All versions of MvC Sky Star abilities function like how they do in the original DMC games, where they lose horizontal momentum upon reaching their max distance (shared with certain characters' flight-based air dashes with similar momentum properties).
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
Dante uses Sky Star in combat, functioning as his air dash (and thus can be used backwards as well with shorter distance than the forward version).
Dante's Sky Star is red, and functions similar to how it does in the original DMC games, where it loses horizontal momentum upon reaching its max distance.
