The Trick Actions are a set of teleportation based abilities for Vergil in Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition and Devil May Cry 5 as well as its Special Edition.
Gameplay
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition
The Trick Actions function in much the same way as Vergil's Dark Slayer Style abilities, Trick Up remains the same as in Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition and Air Trick fires and marks an enemy with a Summoned Sword before teleporting Vergil to it, similarly to the reboot Vergil's take on the Angel Lift ability.
By performing an Air Trick on a Grim Grip, Vergil will perform the Grim Trick allowing him to traverse stages similarly to Nero when he performs a Hell Bound. Trick Down can now exclusively be performed in Devil Trigger, and on the ground becomes a backwards Trickster Style-esque Dash. Lastly, Vergil's Side Rolls in DT have been replaced with Trickster Style-esque Side Dashes to allow for more precise evasion.
However, because of the input overlaps for the techniques Judgement Cut End, Kick 13 and Drive (as they are done by pressing the Melee button + Style button), it's possible to unintentionally cancel the animations of these moves midway unintentionally with an Air Trick, especially if locked-on to a target that has an embedded sword in any fashion; said embedded Summoned Sword would already act as a catalyst for Vergil to Air Trick towards them, even if not locked-on (which will prioritize the nearest target in that case). In that kind of scenario, it also temporarily renders Trick Up inaccessible outside of Judgement Cut End's windup until the embedded sword or more shatters on a still-alive-target via a set amount of time passing.
Just like with his reboot counterpart's Sword Illusion and Embed-version attacks, any Summoned Swords classic Vergil has embedded into a target will eventually break after some time passes just as aforementioned, forcing Vergil to have to shoot another one into an intended target to be able to Air Trick towards them again if all of them have been broken. Vergil can also use the embedded swords applied by either Yamato Combo B or DT-enhanced Rapid Slash to Air Trick towards a target as well, should they not be detonated by either attack's sheathing animation.
Trick Down however, while difficult to execute mid-combat while locking-on (in order to not use Air Trick on accident instead), can be used to cancel attacks mid-animation for a variety of complex movements and/or combos.
Be aware that against multiple enemies at once, especially when also trying to maintain Concentration Levels, the camera orientation may often shift against your favor when making use of Air Trick frequently (as well as learning when to Air Trick or not).
Devil May Cry 5/SE
The Trick Actions return in Devil May Cry 5 and its Special Edition and function largely the same as in the previous game, however you can now Trick Up while having Summoned Swords, now called Mirage Blades, embedded into enemies and you can also now perform Trick Down in human form once more although the ability now costs
17500. You can also Side Dash immediately after attacking in human form.
Additionally you can perform a Trick Dodge, which teleports Vergil a short distance in a desired direction to evade attacks, by buying the upgrade from a Divinity Statue for
9000. Trick Dodge however, can only be input while not locked-on to a target, and frequent usage of it will drain Vergil's Concentration; perfect Trick Dodges or at least Trick Dodging in time against an incoming attack, instead build Concentration, Devil Trigger and Style rating.
