The Ravager is a lesser demon that appears in DmC: Devil May Cry.
Description
The Ravager is an enemy that resembles a matured Stygian, but instead of a blade it wields a full chainsaw on its arm.
Behavior
For each of its attacks, Ravager gains the Enrage status during the windup and attack animations, allowing it to shrug off most attacks without flinching.
- Single 01: A horizontal chainsaw swing from right to left. If this attack connects, the player becomes impaled by the chainsaw, taking damage momentarily before being knocked down the other direction.
- Single 02: A horizontal chainsaw swing from left to right. If this attack connects, the player becomes impaled by the chainsaw, taking damage momentarily before being knocked down the other direction.
- Combo (higher difficulties only): A three hit series of chainsaw swings. This attack does not impale the player, and instead only knocks them down.
- Charge: A mad chainsaw dash that tracks the player. If this attack connects, the player becomes impaled by the chainsaw, taking damage momentarily before being knocked down the other direction.
Strategy
The Ravager is a dangerous enemy if not dealt with immediately. The Enrage state it gets from all of its attacks means that the player can't use regular launchers against it, since Ravager will shrug these off without flinching. Ravager's Enrage must be avoided or broken in order to kill it effectively.
Dante's fully charged Rebellion Drive can interrupt Ravager's Enrage state and also deal damage at the same time.
Aquila's Round Trip can also stop Ravagers that are Enraged, then one can use the angel lift to get closer. If one does not have Aquila, the player can use evade or double jump to easily avoid the Enraged Ravager. But dealing with the Ravager quickly is needed as it is a lesser demon with a deadly trait.
Eryx's Stomp is also great at breaking Ravager's Enrage state. Stomp is invincible from the point where Dante begins descending towards the ground with it, all the way until the first hitbox comes out that's capable of breaking Enrage. Because this move is invincible and it also staggers lighter lesser demons, Dante can use Stomp to break Ravager's Enrage even during the middle of its attacks without taking any damage himself.
Vergil's Just Charge attacks can all break Ravager's Enrage effect. Performing these attacks requires time to charge, so it's best to look for a small opening before attempting to use a Just Charge attack.
Enrage Breaker
Each time it attacks, the Ravager will become Enraged, where it starts to shrug off Demon Pulls and becomes very difficult to stagger and launch. While the Ravager can be evaded during this time to avoid taking damage, the Enrage effect can also be broken allowing the player to launch and juggle the enemy again.
The following moves can break Ravager's Enrage effect:
Dante
- Rebellion Drive (full charge or Just Charge)
- Arbiter Trinity Smash
- Osiris Raze (full charge or Just Charge)
- Eryx Stomp
- Other Eryx Charge Attacks (Charge Level 1 or higher)
- Aquila Round Trip
- Ophion Payoff
- Ebony & Ivory Ricoshot (full charge or Just Charge)
- Revenant Charge Shot
- Kablooey Detonate (4 or more simultaneous darts)
- Devil Trigger (does not work if Definitive Edition's Hardcore mode is enabled)
- Parry
Vergil
- Perfect Slice (sword swing only, not the projectile)
- Solar Flare
- Atomic
Trivia
- In early promotional footage, Ravager had a bluer design with a green Enrage effect, instead of the green design with the yellow Enrage effect used in the final game. The original blue design can be seen in action in the Gamescom 2011 Gameplay Trailer.
