The Death Knight is a type of lesser demon in DmC: Devil May Cry. Death Knights and their variants carry shields around their left arm and wield blades with their right.
Death Knights can also come in two additional variations: the Hell Knight and Frost Knight. Hell Knights and Frost Knights are similar to Death Knights, except Death Knights can only be damaged by Demon Weapons, and Frost Knights can only be damaged by Angelic weapons.
Description[]
Death Knight[]
Like the Stygian, the Death Knight possesses a razor blade instead of an arm, but also employs a shield to protect itself.
Hell Knight[]
Hell Knight is a variation of the Death Knight. They appear similar to Death Knight but they can be distinguished by their bright red appearance, a fiery bladed arm, and their immunity to weapons other than those of the Demonic type such as Arbiter and Eryx. They can corrupt the ground with a searing blaze, damaging Dante if he is not in the Demon Mode while he is stepping on it.
Frost Knight[]
Frost Knight is another variation of the Death Knight. They are distinguished by their bluish color and their immunity to weapons that are not of the Angelic type. Frost Knights can release waves of ice that can freeze targets, even other enemies. On Son of Sparda difficulty and above, Frost Knights begin to carry shields just like their Death and Hell counterparts.
Behavior[]
- Single 01: A single horizontal sword swing.
- Single 03: A single vertical/overhead sword swing.
- Combo: Two horizontal sword swings.
- Counter: A shield parry followed by a vertical/overhead sword swing. This attack happens if the player continues to attack and damage the enemy's shield with weak attacks without properly destroying it.
Special Attacks[]
The following attacks are exclusive to specific variations of Death Knight, where each attack gains a unique Enrage effect during its startup that allows the enemy to resist flinching to most attacks.
- Lunge (Death Knight): A Stinger-like attack, Death Knight performs a long range lunging attack with its sword.
- Ground Inferno (Hell Knight): Hell Knight stabs the ground and releases a demonic eruption of lava in a circular shape. This attack covers a wide area and deals damage over time if the player doesn't have Demon Mode equipped.
- Ice Attack (Frost Knight): Frost Knight slams its sword on the ground, creating an icy fissure that moves in a linear fashion. Any enemy or player that comes into contact with this attack will become frozen for a few seconds.
On higher difficulties, Frost Knights will also start carrying a shield just like the one that Death and Hell Knights have for all difficulties.

Death Knight[]
The shield that Death Knight carries is immune to taking damage from Dante's Ebony & Ivory, Revenant, and Aquila. Death Knight's shield can be broken through successive blows from any weapon, but if the shield is struck with a weaker weapon, there is a chance Death Knight will parry and counter-attack, so it is best to use heavy attacks from Arbiter or Eryx to smash through their shields instead, leaving them vulnerable.
In the case of Vergil, Death Knight's shield is immune to taking damage from Vergil's Sword Illusions. Yamato's Divorce and Killer Bee moves while in Demon Mode are the only attacks in his arsenal able to deal significant damage to easily shatter a death knight's shield quickly, as most of his other moves are either too weak to quickly break their shields, or outright ignore said shields altogether, such as Storm Swords, Yamato's Stomp, and every Yamato Just Charge attack.
Hell Knight[]
To easily defeat them, their shield must be broken first to stagger them for a period of time.
Frost Knight[]
The wave of ice can be parried to freeze them instead.
