Demon Collaborators, also known as Spotters or Lookers, are demon-controlled humans that appear in DmC: Devil May Cry.
Description
Demon Collaborators look like normal humans until they spot a target and pull them into Limbo, where Malice then begins to overflow from their eyes. Their voices also become higher pitch and demonic.
Story
DmC: Devil May Cry
Demon collaborators are a result of Lilith's influence over Limbo City. Lilith, Mundus' demon mistress, runs Limbo City's 'exclusive club for high society' where the city's most powerful people (sports personalities, rich kids, bankers, etc) all gather after-hours. Lilith uses this club as a means to get the city's elite hooked on "demonic substances", of which have the ability to transform humans into a "soulless demon collaborators".[1] Demon collaborator's serve as Lilith's (in turn, Mundus') spies on the ground; they act as a counterpart to Mundus' digital sphere of influence with the Raptor News corporation / mainstream media, and are uniquely able to track real-world targets and drag them into Limbo.
- The first instance of a Demon Collaborator in the story occurs in the opening where the club girls and club patrons at Devil's Dalliance are shown with black eyes overflowing with Malice. It's implied that this is how the Hunter Demon is able to find Dante's trailer's exact location in the first mission.
- Later on, after Vergil explains his and Dante's lineage at the Plaza, a demon collaborator spots Dante and pulls him into Limbo shortly before being killed by Vergil.
- The last collaborator seen is the female seated at Devil's Dalliance (Lilith's nightclub), who again forces Dante into Limbo.
Appearances in Other Media
Night of Thrills
TEPPEN
- Demon Collaborator was added in multiple cards for the DmC: Devil May Cry themed expansion, Metal Suit Mafia. The Club Girl that appears in the "Club Girl" card reappears in the background of the "Night of Thrills" card, and has the same malice colored-eyes as the Demon Collaborator Club Girls seen at both Devil's Dalliance and the intro scene from the beginning of DmC: Devil May Cry.
Trivia
- Demon Collaborators are the only enemy type who appear solely in cutscenes.
- The tears of Malice on Demon Collaborators' faces are a reference to corpse paint - makeup, used by black metal bands during live concerts. This makeup is used to make the musicians appear inhuman, corpse-like, or demonic, and has likely become "the most identifiable aspect of the black metal aesthetic."
